What Japan likes...
I've got lots to tell you, but I've got to get this list out of my head. I've been walking around seeing things that just make me laugh and I've cataloged them for a blog, because that's how a blogger's mind works, right?

Three things the Japanese love:

1) animated Toast, you may have seen it on Yo Gabba Gabba, but they love the stuff. It's all over commercials and stores and they just love happy, smiling, toast. It's usually covered in jam, too.

2) Random Disney characters specifically Stitch and the girl cat from Aristocats. We went to eat and they gave Ainsley a little kid's plate with that darned girl cat. So random.

3) Recycling. Hippie Sara and Naika, you guys would love it here. Everything is sorted into burnables, plastic, glass, and paper. There are cans everywhere to throw your plastic drink bottles. Vending machines everywhere, so are the recycling bins. It costs an average of $30 in America to put a ton of waste into a land fill. Here in Japan, they don't have room for land fills. It costs roughly $500 to put a ton of waste into a land fill. No wonder they love to recycle.

4) Veronica Mars. Yes, you read that right. They love drama and on one of the semi English channels they run American dramas with sub titles. There's all the CSIs, Numbers, Lost, Charmed, Cold Case, Ghost Whisperer (you know how the Japanese love JLH more than the Germans love Hasselhoff) and best of all Veronica Mars. It's funny though, because they run the commercials with dubbing. It's hilarious to hear people that you recognize like Mr. Universe (ya know, David Krumholtz from Numbers) but he's all manly Japanese.

The Japanese are alright with me if they are watching Veronica Mars.

A little Ainsley news: Her new favorite thing to say is "Don't yell at me." Now, I'm not a yelling mom. I'm not just saying that. Ainsley is very influenced by just a mad face and some stern words. So it's funny that she says that because I never do. She says it when I'm telling her to go to bed and I've had enough stalling. She says it when I say "you have to hold my hand crossing the street." She even said it to Cheyenne and he really never yells.

In other news, our lodge room is still small. But here's something I haven't whined about: I think it smells in here. Cheyenne and Ainsley don't think so, but I do. Everytime I walk in I have to reacclimate myself to the odd stench. I've tried an air freshner, but Ainsley keeps moving it and hiding it. Grr....it smells weird in here.

One last picture for you. I made my sister a tutu and sent it to her in Iraq. She loved it. I feel like I should have made it more blue to match her BDUs. She now calls herself LT Tutu.

I'm glad to hear that you and your family are doing well in Japan. :)

See, Dawn Ostroff, people do watch Veronica Mars! Like worldwide! lol

Your little girl is so cute. Oh, kids. :)

That picture of your sister wearing a tutu is cute too. Maybe you should start your own business making tutu! Haha.

What i found funny about Japanese TV were the movie stars that wouldn't condescend to do commercials in the US, line up to do them in Japan. I laughed my arse off when i saw Arnold Schwarzenegger do a jingle with a funny cap on in Japanese for a drink.

You’re sister is adorable. I didn’t know that she was in the service. Tutu & fatigues = the most awesome thing ever. What a fun gift!

It’s neat hearing about the cultural differences. I’m always curious about that kind of stuff. *lives in a bubble*

This post seems kind of aggressive. You need to chill out…;-p

Your daughter is a riot!

I'm sure Beth's whole office loved the tutu. XD They loved the dried mangoes I sent.

Aggressive? I don't know what you mean.

See and you thought there wasn't going to be good TV in Japan....now all they ned is Pushing Daisies and Chuck and you'll be all set (they come out on DVD in September just in case you weren't aware, but who am I kidding - of course YOU know!!). Love the tutu for Bethey - how is Iraq treating her? Erick is eating Steak and Lobster every Friday and just had an Afghanistan suit made for him at the last Market Day. I think, besides the 12-16 hour work days, it's like a frickin vacation.
